Navigating Folders

How to move around folders

Pixie supports much of the navigation features one would expect in any file browser. These include toolbar buttons for going to your home folder , going up a folder , and going going back and forth between previously selected folders.

You also can enter a folder path directly into the folder path display on the toolbar. The folder path display features auto-completion of folder names and a history you can access by pressing the down arrow.

Of course, if you click on a folder inside the browser or directory tree Pixie's browser will also change to that folder.

Changing folders can also be accomplished by using the HotList, which is described later in this manual.

Setting the Sort Mode

With Pixie you can sort your images or photos in seven different ways. You set the sort mode by selecting the "View" menu from the menubar, then clicking on the "Sort" submenu. The available options include:

Other Options in the Sort Menu

If you have your images mixed in with lots of other files, such as inside a cluttered home directory, you may wish to only view images inside the Pixie browser. In this case you can select the "Images and folders only" option. This will cause the browser to only display folders, images, and video thumbnails. No other file types will be displayed.

The "Images on top" option serves a similiar function. It places all the images on the top of the browser and all the other types of files below them. This makes images easy to find.

The "Categories on top" option is part of the PixiePlus categorized file support and is discussed in the Categories chapter.

Tooltips and File Properties

Pixie supports tooltips for all your files in order to easily present you with important file information. These include the file's size, owner and group, if you have read or write access to the file, when the file was last read, and when it was last modified. If the file is a PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, or TIFF image it will also display image resolution, color mode, and other useful format-specific information.

You also can view or edit additional file properties by right clicking on the desired file and selecting the "Properties" item. The right click menu is described in-depth later in this document.
